Sarawak records three new clusters

KUCHING: Sarawak Health Department has identified three new clusters namely, Jalan Main Bazaar Cluster in Sri Aman district, Buluh Pasi Cluster in Meradong and Sena Cluster in Miri.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the cluster in Sri Aman is a community cluster involving a family which was then spread to a secondary school in the district.

“The index case for this cluster is case 9,908 involving a local woman, aged 52, who was screened before undergoing surgery at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) on March 1.

“A total of 133 individuals have been screened with 12 tested positive including the index case, 103 negative and 18 are still awaiting laboratory results,” he said in a daily Covid-19 press conference today.

He also said all close contacts to the positive case were identified and admitted to the quarantine centre while those tested positive have been admitted to SGH and Sri Aman Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the Buluh Pasi Cluster involved a longhouse in Sungai Buluh, Jalan Pasi in Meradong district.

The index case for this cluster is sase 7,689, who was detected through a screening at a workplace in Sibu Town.

“The index case underwent screening at Lanang Health Clinic in Sibu and was tested positive on Feb 20.

“A total of 267 individuals identified as contacts to the index case have been screened. Of these, 21 tested positive including the index case while 246 were negative.

“All 21 positive cases were admitted to Sarikei Hospital for further treatment,” he added.

Uggah further mentioned that the Sena Cluster in Miri district involved a close contact to an index case in Lorong Sena, Desa Senadin, Permyjaya and two longhouses in Subis district.

“The index case is case 8,866 involving a local woman aged 47 who had developed symptoms since Feb 19 and underwent a symptomatic screening on Feb 24.

“A total of 166 individuals identified as contacts to the positive case have been screened. Of these, 61 tested positive including the index case, 95 negative, while 10 are awaiting lab results,” he added.

All 61 positive cases were admitted to Miri Hospital and PKRC for further treatment.

On another note, Uggah announced the end of Bintang Daily Cluster in Meradong district.

This is after no new cases were recorded since the last one on Feb 11.

A total of 70 individuals linked to this cluster were screened with 10 tested positive and 60 negative.

As of today, there are 28 active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak.
