KUCHING: Sarawak recorded one new Covid-19 death on Monday (Feb 22), bringing the state’s death tally to 74.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said, “Case 5,707 was a 58-year-old local male receiving treatment in Sibu Hospital for fever, cough and difficulties in breathing. He was screened with an rt-PCR test on Feb 7 and found positive on the same day.

“His health deteriorated and he was pronounced dead on Feb 20. The victim also had comorbid of mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) with pulmonary involvement,” he said.

Uggah added 221 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the state, an increase of 36 cases or 19.46 percent from the cases on Sunday (Feb 21).

“Of the total, 67 cases were recorded in Kuching, Sibu (63), Bintulu (28), Meradong (24), Kapit (15), Samarahan (11), Miri (five), Bau (three), Subis (two), Beluru (one), Betong (one) dan Kanowit (one),” he said.

Uggah revealed 111 new cases had recovered and were discharged.

“Thirty-eight cases were discharged from low-risk quarantine centres (PKRC) under Kapit Hospital, Sibu Hospital (36), Miri Hospital (15), Sarawak General Hospital (13), Sarikei Hospital (eight) and Limbang Hospital (one).

“This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases that have recovered or allowed to be discharged to 5,885 people or 72.08 percent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak,” he said.
