Sarawak requests RM85mil for Additional and Late Applicant Fund initiative

BINTULU: An additional allocation of RM85mil has been requested to implement the Additional and Late Applicant Fund (ALAF) initiative to ensure that the people can continue to enjoy 24-hour electricity supply. 

Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (Utility), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the additional allocation was for another 5,115 households with a target for the project to be completed by 2025.

He said since the launch in 2018, a total of RM230mil has been allocated to implement the ALAF initiative involving more than 20,000 households.

“Almost 14,500 households have been powered up, while 5,366 households are still in various stages of implementation and 999 households are in the survey stage. 

“To date, for the area around the Jepak constituency, an implementation cost of RM7.29mil has been spent to implement the people’s project involving 397 households to ensure that the people around the Jepak enjoy uninterrupted electricity supply in their respective homes.”

He said this when officiating at the ALAF Scheme Project at Rumah Lampoh Anak Dana, Sungai Mas, KM25 Jalan Bintulu-Tatau here on Monday (Oct 30). 

This marks the successful electrification of the households which included 19 households of Rumah Jungan Mitoh, 14 households of Rumah Sam Sumbang along with 16 personal residences in the surrounding area-all of which are now able to enjoy 24-hour access to reliable electricity. 

“The ALAF initiative at Rumah Lampoh Anak Dana hass been fully completed in 2020. While for the three longhouses and personal residences in the surrounding areas, the ALAF project involves an investment of RM442,700, covering the installation of low-tension lines, high-tension lines, transformers and service lines.”

He added through the commitment in this implementation and also the support of the people, the Sarawak government hopes to realise the aspiration of full electrification status for Sarawak by 2025, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 to ensure access to electricity at a reasonable price, reliable, sustainable and modern to all Sarawakians.

“With access to this electricity supply, the biggest benefit is increasing the local socioeconomy and the standard of living of the local community in general.”
