KUCHING: Sarawak must capitalise on its renewable energy sector to spearhead the production of eco-friendly materials and assert dominance in the market.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that in tandem with technological advancements in renewable energy production, this endeavour is expected to cater to the contemporary global demands.

“I anticipate that our technology will evolve in response to the shifts in renewable energy, thereby rendering the materials we produce in Sarawak more environmentally friendly,” he stated. “And once you change all of this, the market is yours.”

He made these remarks during his address at the inauguration of Fuya Energy Sdn Bhd, held at Demak Laut Industrial Park here on Wednesday (Sept 20).

Abang Johari underscored that the state’s transition to renewable energy technology has also had a significant impact on the manufacturing sector.

“This impact is evident in the state’s manufacturing plants, which now harness eco-friendly energy sources. Consequently, by embracing these changes, they become low-carbon suppliers for all material processing activities in Sarawak.”

Furthermore, he highlighted that by adopting a green energy focus, the state can facilitate access to loans through ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) protocols.

“If we collectively embrace this innovative approach, financial institutions are more likely to support our expansion plans, thereby granting us a competitive edge and market dominance in today’s business landscape.”
