KUCHING: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture in collaboration with the Malaysian Association of Arts and Culture Activists Kuching (MACPA) will be organising the inaugural Sarawak Music Fashion Galore (SAMFAG) 2020 on Nov 28 at Pullman Hotel here.

“The aim of the event is to highlight the Sarawak songket motif for Unesco (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) nomination,” Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah told a press conference at the Baitul Makmur II Building here on Wednesday (Oct 28).

The Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister added the event would showcase renowned designers and models while also including musical performances.

According to him, SAMFAG 2020 selected Sarawak songket as a work of art, themed ‘Enchanting Evening with Sarawak Songket’ and aimed to elevate the traditional heritage of Sarawak to a higher level.

“In other respects, Sarawak songket is incorporated under Malaysia songket’s nomination for Unesco’s representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity 2021.”
