Sarawak taekwondoists bring home 13 medals, including 8 gold

KUCHING: It was a fruitful outing for Sarawak Taekwondo Federation (WTF) exponents at the recent 2023 Asian Taekwondo Club Championship in China when they kicked and punched their way to eight gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Federation president Azizul Annuar Adenan said he was impressed by the athletes’ performance, despite the fact that some of them are young and lacked international exposure.

“They did very well in every bout and event “beat’ the seniors en route to the gold medals,” he said.

The gold winners are Puteri Durratun Zulaikha Samat (Kyorugi Female 17-18 years Heavyweight), Zara Nur Zafirah Mohd Yusof (Poomsae Female Individual Junior Poom), Cinta Kirana Mohamad Nazid (Poomsae Female Individual Youth Red), Iris Nur Irdina Mohd Yusof (Poomsae Female Individual Youth Poom), Fedealis Kom Twin (Poomsae Male Individual Junior Poom), Emerald Cole Willie (Poomsae Male Individual Cadet Poom), Anuwath Sarat (Poomsae Male Individual Cadet Poom) and Harry Daniel  Hunter (Poomsae Male Individual Cadet Red).

The silver medallists are Chai Soon Hian (Kyorugi Men Open Light Heavyweight) and Awanis Maisara Mohamad Nor Arbi  (Poomsae Female Individual Youth Poom) and the bronze medallists, Clement Law Mien Mua (Kyorugi Male 15-16 years Middleweight), Leston Kok Zi Yi (Kyorugi Male 15-16 years Lightweight) and Jong Thian Fatt (Kyorugi Male 15-16 Heavyweight).
