KUCHING: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has tightened entry procedures for people coming from West Malaysia.

This is following a rise in the number of Covid-19 cases outside Sarawak.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas announced that all Malaysians and non-Malaysians (except Sarawakians) entering Sarawak from West Malaysia from Oct 4 to 18 would need to apply for entry via the EnterSarawak apps and fill in the e-Health declaration form.

“They will be quarantined for 14 days, with Covid-19 tests done on Day Two and Day 10. The cost of quarantine and Covid-19 tests will be borne by themselves,” he said at a SDMC Covid-19 update press conference today.

For non-Sarawakians categorised under essential services having to carry out official duties in Sarawak, application for entry must be made via the EnterSarawak apps and the e-Health declaration form must be filled out.

“It is also compulsory for them to undertake a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) Covid-19 test three days before flying in,” he said.

He said that Sarawakians in West Malaysia would be allowed to return to the state, but they need to apply via the EnterSarawak application and fill out the e-Health declaration form.

“They will be fitted with wristbands and quarantined for 14 days, with an RT-PCR Covid-19 test conducted on Day Two.

“If the test result is negative, they will be allowed to return to their respective homes to continue the remainder of the quarantine days and they will be given a home surveillance order (HSO),” said Uggah, who is also SDMC chairman.

He added that these individuals were required to go to the nearest health clinic to undergo an RT-PCR test on Day 10.

According to him, the cost of quarantine and Covid-19 tests for these Sarawakians will be borne by the state government.

As for Sarawakians categorised under essential services having to carry out official duties in West Malaysia, he said that they would be allowed to go. They would be required to apply for entry via the EnterSarawak application and fill out the e-Health declaration form.

“It is also compulsory for them to get approval from their respective heads of department and upload this official letter as well as meeting invitation to the EnterSarawak application before being allowed to return without quarantine at a quarantine centre,” he said.

He said these individuals would be swabbed upon arrival in Sarawak and fitted with a wristband before being quarantined under HSO until their test results returned negative.

“For those who have negative RT-PCR tests (valid for 14 days), they can upload the negative test result in the EnterSarawak application along with the official letter and meeting invitation before they are allowed to return without being quarantined at the quarantine centre,” said Uggah.

He added that all these directives were effective from Oct 4 to 18.
