Sarawak to extend RMCO until March 31

KUCHING: Sarawak will follow the federal government’s decision to extend the recovery movement control order (RMCO) until March 31.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Putrajaya has officially announced the extension from Jan 1 to March 31. 

“Therefore, SDMC has decided to extend all the standard operating procedures (SOPs) adopted last year,” it said in a statement today (Jan 1). 

The committee also said the extension of the SOPs includes the entry procedures to Sarawak until March 31. 

Meanwhile, SDMC said in view of the seven local transmission cases reported in Kuching, Meradong and Bintulu district, and one imported case in Miri today, the public should ensure that the health recommendations and advice are practised are adhered to at all times. 

“Do not be complacent and take the SOPs lightly,” it said. 

SDMC also reminded the public not to take the current situation in the state lightly but to always remain vigilant and look after each other to break the Covid-19 chain, especially during the festive season.

On the Covid-19 update in the state, SDMC said there were no new recoveries and discharges from hospital today. This brings the cumulative total of recovered and discharged cases to 1,069 or 95.02 percent of the total cases recorded in Sarawak. 

Thirty-five patients are currently receiving treatments at isolation wards in hospitals, with 14 in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Miri Hospital (eight), Sibu Hospital (seven), Bintulu Hospital (five) and Sungai Buluh Hospital (one). 

SDMC said there were nine new persons-under-investigation  (PUI) reported while no PUI are awaiting laboratory test results. 

Meanwhile, the committee said that 468 persons-under-surveillance (PUS) had checked into quarantine centres to undergo quarantine. 

This brings the current total number of PUS cases at 43 hotels and non-hotel quarantine centres statewide to 3,202 persons, while 46,868 PUS cases have completed their quarantine period.
