Sarawak to host world tenpin bowling championship 2026

KUCHING: Sarawak is to host the World Youth Cup Tenpin Bowling Championship in 2026 which will be held at Megalanes Sarawak, Batu Kawa here.

President of Amateur Bowling (Tenpin) Association of Sarawak (ABAS), Sunny Sim Poh Heng shared the announcement after the International Bowling Federation (IBF) chose Megalanes Sarawak to host the tournament.

“After Peru in 2024, in 2026 the World Youth Cup Tenpin Bowling Championship will be held in Megalanes Sarawak.

“We would like to thank the International Bowling Federation (IBF),” he said during his address at the SSC-ABAS-SENATOR Interschool Tenpin Bowling Development Programme 2024 at Megalanes Sarawak, Batu Kawa on Sunday.

In addition, he also shared that Megalanes Sarawak will be hosting SUKMA 2024 for bowling.

Separately, Sim encouraged the students and participants to excel and work hard academically, balancing academic excellence and also in sports.

“I want you (students) to excel and to do well in your studies, because in Sarawak we are proud of our bowlers who are good academically as well,” he said.

During the tournament, a total of 247 participants have participated in the SSC-ABAS-Senator Interschool Tenpin Bowling Challenge 2024.

The bowling tournament featured fifty-eight schools from thirty primary schools and twenty-eight secondary schools across Sarawak.

Also competing were the school’s instructors, men (17) and women (23).

The tournament which began on Jan 5 until 7, saw 111 primary school students competing in both the girls and boys categories, while the secondary school students saw 96 students competing in girls and boys categories.

Among those present at the prize giving ceremony were Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim, Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) chief executive officer (CEO), Awang Putrayusrie Awang Reduan and Abas vice president Robert Lu Nam Min.
