Sarawak to set up gallery in honour of Muslim scholar

KUCHING: The Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) will set up a gallery to display the works of Ibnu Khaldun, the 12 century Arab sociologist, philosopher and historian.

Council president Datuk Misnu Taha said the gallery would serve as a platform for Muslims to appreciate the works and services of the Muslim scholar.

Touted as one of the most remarkable scholars of the pre-modern period, Ibnu Khaldun founded what he called the science of human society or social organisation, and developed a new methodology for writing history.

By quoting Zaid Ahmad from Faculty of Human Ecology Universiti Putra Malaysia, the efforts and services of the remarkable Muslim scholar.

“We took the initiative to appreciate the works of Ibnu Khaldun by proposing a gallery in his name in that hope that his works will continue to be an inspiration to the people,” Misnu said during a ‘Discourse on Thoughts of Ibnu Khaldun’s Leadership’ here, on Thursday (Jan 27).

He thanked Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari for supporting the gallery project.   

On another development, Misnu announced that SIC would start an Islamic education system in Sarawak.

“By the year of 2027, it will be implemented in all primary and secondary schools throughout the state,” he said.
