KUCHING: Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan has announced that Sarawak is vying to host the finals of Miss International Malaysia in the state.

Launching the Miss International Sarawak at The Waterfront Hotel, he said the organisers plan to propose Sarawak as the host to promote the state, considering the involvement of 80 countries in the competition.

“Previously, the national final was held in Kuala Lumpur and negotiations are underway to hold the finals in Sarawak, which is seen as a better option.

“So it depends on the franchise holder and our ministry, and if everything is fine we can have the national finals here in Sarawak,” he said yesterday.

Snowdan also said that the state is also hoping to host the international finals next year, with 80 countries participating.

He expressed confidence in Sarawak’s ability to host such a massive event, citing the state government’s openness to such opportunities.

He added that hosting the event with 80 countries would generate considerable interest from both local and international audiences, making it a game-changer for the state’s tourism industry.

“Overall, hosting the Miss International Malaysia competition in Sarawak can be a significant turning point for the state’s tourism industry, bringing in unprecedented opportunities for growth and development,” he said. The competition, he said, is the third most prominent event after Miss Universe and Miss World since the 1960s.
