Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing

KUCHING: Sarawak is moving well into the 21st century in all aspects of development, including the state’s digital economy policy, hydrogen buses, and autonomous rail transit (ART), said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing.

He gave the thumbs-up for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s vision and policy for Sarawak’s future developments in this modern era.

“We have to look into the future, you do not look back into the past. We must have a vision in order for us to move forward,” he said at a press conference at his office here yesterday.

“What Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has done is correct. We have to move forward in order to be relevant while the 21st century is on our doorstep,” he said.

Using the recent International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (Idecs) 2020 as an example, he said that when the conference was first held three years ago, many international speakers had physically come to Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) to attend the conference.

“This year during Idecs, they were not physically here but we could listen to them and hold discussions through teleconferencing applications such as Zoom,” he said, emphasising the vast difference in conference format in just three years.

Masing, who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Ports Development, said that discussions had been virtually held with experts all over the world such as Switzerland and the United States of America.

“That is how we have moved forward in digital development,” he said.
