MIRI: Wong Su Chung, 60, has made history as the first Sarawakian to reach the summit of Mount Everest.

On May 19, recently, at 9:37 am, Wong stood atop the world’s highest peak.

Wong’s remarkable journey to the summit, towering at 8,848.86 meters, spanned 45 gruelling days.

His preparation for this formidable challenge began three years ago, involving intense training and acclimatisation.

“It’s not easy,” remarked.

Upon Wong’s return on Saturday, from Kuala Lumpur to Miri, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting, represented the Sarawak government in welcoming him home.

“We are very proud of him,” said Ting, emphasising the dedication and resilience required to undertake such an expedition.

He recommended that Wong be appointed as an ambassador for the Ministry of Tourism Sarawak.

“I believe this will be good for Sarawak, especially for tourism,” Ting stated.
