KUCHING: Sarawakians residing in West Malaysia who were affected by the recent flooding disaster there will be relieved to know that the state government is looking to extend more assistance to them in the near future.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced this after chairing a Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) supreme council meeting at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here on Sunday (Jan 9).

He said further assistance would be channeled through Rumah Sarawak.

“We (Sarawak Government) will help the people of Sarawak affected by the floods in the peninsula through the Rumah Sarawak office,” he said.

Last December, assistance in the form of food items and basic necessities worth RM17,200 was given to 86 Sarawakian families in Selangor.

The Sarawak Government’s contribution was given through Rumah Sarawak and Sarawak Volunteers to flood victims living in Sri Muda, Shah Alam as well as in Klang, Balakong, Dengkil and Cheras.

The first group of 68 families received assistance on Dec 24 last year while the second group of 18 families received assistance on Dec 28 last year.

The contribution was presented by the Sarawak Liaison Office in Kuala Lumpur (PPSKL) director Awang Supian Awang Daud.

The delivery of the aid followed instructions from Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the patron of Sarawak Volunteers in an effort to identify and assist Sarawakians affected by the floods.
