SIBU: Sarawakians are encouraged to enrol and pursue their studies at University Technology Sarawak (UTS) here given that it has the highest graduate employability rate in Malaysia.

State Assistant Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee noted that the university offered a wide range of courses from bachelor’s degrees to professional certificates that enhance graduates’ marketability.

“Eighty per cent of the programmes offered by UTS have been fully accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the university has produced 2,200 graduates since its establishment in 2013.

“I would like to encourage our students to enrol themselves in UTS because we have 99.1 per cent graduate employability rate. Moreover, their qualifications would be higher than graduates from other universities.”

He said this during the official launch of UTS here on Wednesday (Nov 10).

On the approval of UTS as a full-fledged university by the Ministry of Higher Education starting from Nov 8, Dr Annuar said it was a significant accomplishment for Sarawak

“The university was previously called University College of Technology Sarawak or UCTS, and it was established in 2013. There were many challenges that it had to overcome throughout the years.

“Even though there are many universities in the state, UTS is a first for Sarawak under the state government and this is something for all to be proud of.”

Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister, disclosed that the university would focus on increasing the number of student intake.

“We want more Sarawakian students to enrol here so that they can utilise the facilities that have been provided by the state government.

“The state government has indeed invested a lot in UTS and it is for the people.”
