KUCHING: The implementation of the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 8.0 package this year can be viewed as a symbol of appreciation to the people of Sarawak who gave their strong support and a big mandate to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the recent state election.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the GPS-led state government was always concerned towards the needs of the people, not only for human capital but also to develop the state towards stability, prosperity, and glory.

“BKSS 8.0 is a manifestation of the Sarawak government to help ease the burden of the people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said on Friday (Jan 28).

He noted that seven measures had been included under BKSS 8.0, including the extension of electricity and water bill discounts, extension of 50 per cent rental discount for housing schemes under Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Sarawak, a one-off special grant for hawkers and petty traders registered with local authorities, and so on.

“With this, we can see that the Sarawak government always strives to provide the appropriate assistance to the people at various stages of life,” said the Assistant Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications.

He pointed out that Sarawak was one of the most consistent states with regard to providing direct assistance such as BKSS to the people, starting from BKSS 1.0 until BKSS 8.0 now.

“We hope that with the measures provided under BKSS 8.0, the people in Sarawak will be able to continue surviving despite facing this challenging period,” said Dr Abdul Rahman.

Earlier the same day, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had announced the seven measures under the BKSS 8.0 package worth RM285.47mil.
