Sarawak’s Covid-19 tally nears 50k mark

KUCHING: Sarawak’s Covid-19 tally is now 49,920 after 706 new cases were recorded on Friday (June 4).

395 cases (55.95 per cent) were recorded in the districts of Kuching, Sibu and Miri.

Kuching reported 167 cases followed by Sibu, 115; then Miri, 113; Sri Aman, 50; Kapit, 43; Bintulu, 40; Samarahan, 32; Subis, 27; Mukah, 19; Selangau, 18; Beluru, 18; Kanowit, eight; Lundu, eight also; and Meradong, seven.

Five cases were reported in Kabong and Asajaya while Lubok Antu and Dalat had four cases.

Bau, Sarikei and Tanjung Manis recorded three cases, followed by two cases each in Lawas, Sebauh, Tatau, Serian and Matu.

Song, Simunjan Julau and Limbang recorded one case each.

“Forty-seven out of the 612 cases are individuals who were symptomatic during screening.

“599 individuals had been instructed to undergo quarantine at designated places,” the Sarawak Disaster management Committee (SDMC) said in a statement.

557 new cases were screened after having contact with positive cases, 60 from other screenings in health facilities, 47 cases were screening of symptomatic individuals in health facilities, 39 were individuals linked to active clusters, and another three were Import B cases (returning from other states).”

Meanwhile, SDMC said 603 patients had recovered and were discharged from hospitals statewide on Friday.

Of the number, 171 were from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) under SGH; Miri Hospital and its PKRC (105); Sibu Hospital and its PKRC (74); Bintulu Hospital and its PKRC (70); Sarikei Hospital and its PKRC (67); Mukah PKRC (40); Sri Aman Hospital and its PKRC (28); Betong PKRC (20); Kapit Hospital and its PKRC (17); and Serian PKRC (11).

This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases thus far to 40,968 (82.07 per cent).

“There are 8,525 individuals still undergoing treatment at PKRCs and hospital isolation wards statewide.

“706 persons-under-investigation have been reported with none waiting for laboratory test results.”
