Sarawak’s COVID cases show upward trend

KUCHING: Sarawak’s daily COVID-19 cases have hit triple digits after logging in 129 cases on Tuesday (Feb 8), an increase of 45 cases compared to Monday’s 84 cases.

This brings the state’s cumulative figure to 253,216 cases.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily update said all the cases were classified under categories 1 and 2.

Sixty-five cases were categorised under category 1 with no symptoms and 64 cases under category 2 with mild symptoms.

“Kuching topped the list with 54 cases, followed by Sibu (35); Miri (18); Limbang (nine); Kapit (four); three each in Song and Bintulu; and one each in Lundu, Meradong and Kota Samarahan.

“No new fatality or clusters were reported,” the committee said.

In addition, 88 new persons are placed under surveillance and 339 of them are currently quarantined at designated hotels.

SDMC also stated that the total number of persons under surveillance who were discharged were 165,912.

On non-compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), Kuching police issued 13 compound notices to errant individuals for failing to scan the MySejahtera before entering a premises.

With that, it brings the total number of compounds issued by Sarawak police to 13,190.
