KUCHING: Sarawak is poised for significant growth with a series of major developments on the horizon through Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s recent announcement of the upcoming projects that promise to transform the region’s economic landscape.
Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos quoted Abang Johari, saying, “A commercial bank, a new airline, a new airport, a new port, and many other developments are in the pipeline.”
“These initiatives, which were not even considered a few years ago, are now becoming a reality thanks to the proactive and determined efforts of the Sarawak government,” he added.
These projects, he added, are expected to bring substantial benefits to the people of Sarawak.
The new commercial bank will be tailored to meet the specific needs of Sarawakians, fostering development and business growth in the region.
Additionally, the introduction of a new airline will likely boost tourism, leveraging Sarawak’s existing hotel infrastructure and tourist attractions.
“A new port near Kuching is anticipated to enhance business operations in the capital city and the surrounding region. The strategic importance of this port cannot be overstated as it is expected to serve as a critical lifeline for the growing Kuching area.
“Furthermore, the takeover of the Bintulu port, coupled with potential rail and road links to the new Indonesian capital of Nusantara, is projected to create significant economic opportunities.”
He noted that the Sarawak government, under the leadership of the Premier, is rapidly modernising the state, earning respect within the Asean region. The introduction of new industries, public utilities, and facilities marks a trajectory of success.
“If current trends and initiatives continue, Sarawak is projected to see an increase in annual revenue by more than RM13bil and a GDP of RM280bil by 2030.
“We salute the Sarawak government, especially the Premier, for their unwavering commitment to modernising Sarawak, their efforts are putting Sarawak on the map and setting the stage for a prosperous future,” Minos said.
