MIRI: Increasing flight frequency as well as the number of visitors entering Sarawak during this festive season indicate good signs for the state economy.
Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said from January 18 to 31, there was an increase of 71 flights flying to Sarawak, which shows that our economy is getting more active.
“Meanwhile, through the Brunei and Sarawak borders, I was informed by the authorities that about 2,000 cars enter the border daily, while during the weekend and this Chinese New Year, it is about 3,000 cars,” he said at his Chinese New Year open house held at Dewan Dato Permaisuri Permyjaya here today (Jan 23).
Lee, who is also the Senadin assemblyman, hoped that the momentum and number of flights entering Sarawak will continue to increase this new year, what more with the new airline company coming into the picture, which is MYAirline.
Meanwhile, speaking on the Chinese New Year celebration, he said that the open house tradition in Sarawak needs to be preserved as this is proof that Sarawakians are living in harmony and unity.
“Sarawak has been an example of harmonious unity; our people are made up of various races, religions, and cultures.
“Sarawak’s past and present leaders also prioritise the unity and harmony of our people. That is why today we can see that Sarawak has a very good atmosphere of life among our various communities,” he said.
Commenting on the establishment of the Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation Action Council, Lee noted that it was seen as a positive step to achieve the goal and facilitate the discussion of Sarawak’s rights in MA63.
Lee’s open house was also attended by Northern Sarawak Journalist Association (NSJA) members led by its president Andy Jong.
