Sarawak’s streak continues

KUCHING: The streak of zero Covid-19 cases continues as no positive case was reported in the state on Monday, with the cumulative total remaining at 682 cases since the first positive case was reported on Mar 13.

According to State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), four individuals are still receiving treatment at hospital isolation wards and the total number of deaths remains at 19, or 2.79 percent

“There are also no new cases that had recovered and been discharged from hospitals throughout Sarawak,” said the committee in its daily Covid-19 update on Monday.

SDMC said there were also two new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases reported where one is currently awaiting laboratory test results.

It added that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) had issued a total of nine compound notices for non-compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) namely two in Miri, Padawan (two), Limbang (two), and one each in Kuching, Kota Samarahan, and Betong.

Meanwhile, an Indonesian man was arrested at a restaurant in Limbang for non-compliance of SOPs and failure to observe physical distancing.

The committee said the statewide monitoring of SOP compliance comprising of 586 personnel had inspected 1,743 premises which include 219 supermarkets, restaurants (350), factories (10), banks (125), government offices (58), hawker centres (37), markets (81), places of worship (80), recreational areas (46), construction sites (23), and others (714).

There are also six ongoing roadblocks conducted in five districts throughout the state as part of Ops Benteng.

The roadblocks comprise of two locations in Lundu and one each in Bau, Serian, Sri Aman, and Lubok Antu with a total of 779 vehicles inspected.
