JEPAK assemblyman Iskandar Turkee fully supports the effort of Sarawak government to strengthen the economy, ensuring its continuous growth and positioning Sarawak as the third largest contributor to the Malaysian economy, after Selangor and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, surpassing Johor’s economy.
He said with the imminent takeover of Bintulu Port, this step would enable the port to be managed and further developed by the state, thereby transforming it into a transportation hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
“As a result of these efforts, we request the establishment of a Tax-Free Zone in Bintulu like Johor Premium Outlet, Mitsui Outlet, and others. Sarawak also needs to take similar initiatives to establish the first Tax-Free Zone in Borneo, which we can name as Jepak Premium Outlet,” he uttered.
He said this when debating in support of the motion of appreciation to the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar in the august House today (May 9).
“To strengthen the agricultural industry in the Jepak constituency, we request the government to establish three or four Agro Parks to enhance the economy and income of farmers towards achieving high income livelihood.
He emphasised that Agro Park approach focused more on Modern Agriculture and equipped with the latest technology, collaborating with the private sectors to assist in training, packaging, marketing, distribution, and sales of products.
“Through advanced technology, it will attract young people to engage in farming as a permanent career to generate high income.
On another note, aligned with the vision of “Sports for All by 2030” brought by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development of Sarawak, he also requested for the construction of a Motorsports Complex in Jepak constituency to be considered, to meet the desires and interests of young people keen in motorsports.
“This is important in channelling the interests of young people legally and legitimately from a legislative perspective, as well as addressing issues such as illegal racing, social disturbances, and others,” he said.
