KUCHING: Sarawak’s support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is crucial and he is very much hoping for Sarawak to remain the fixed deposit for the ruling government, opines political analyst Assoc Prof Dr Saudi Narani.

He believed Muhyiddin’s two-day visit to Sarawak on the 1st and 2nd of April would be to discuss state election matters and the possibility of holding one amidst the pandemic as well as sharing common views on the possibility of having the general election this year as well.

“Secondly, there might be the possibility of negotiation for Sarawak to open its door to Muhyiddin’s Parti Peribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) to contest in Sarawak at the parliamentary level.

“At the moment, Bersatu has only two seats in Sarawak, and these two incumbents need to defend their seat unconditionally,” he said today.

Sharing his views on the prime minister, he described him as calm, full of patience, and demonstrating the highest quality of leadership amidst the pandemic and chaotic political scenarios in Peninsular Malaysia.

“Any leader in his position taking office during the falling of the government, Covid-19 pandemic, and with our kind of political unrest and elected representatives jumping ship for survival will have to climb the cliff.”

Dr Saudi expressed his full confidence in Muhyiddin leading the nation and bringing it forward in his own way, pointing out that he was a veteran statesman with vast experience.

“He can do what others do not expect him to do. He is tough. As the saying goes, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going.”
