DEBAK: Sacks of fertilizer totalling 4,219 were distributed to farmers in Saribas under the Agricultural Assistance Scheme.

Saribas assemblyman Mohammad Razi Sitam said the scheme was an effort to help farmers increase their yields. He also stressed that the fertilizer should not be sold later.

“I have reminded many times, the aid (fertilizer) should not be sold. This is because the state government spends a large amount, for example in Saribas, for the Agricultural Assistance Scheme, to the tune of RM500,000.

“I hope that the fertilizer is used well so that we can see the results later (multiplied agricultural yields),” he said at a handover ceremony at Dewan Perpaduan here on Thursday (April 1).

Touching on the distribution of the aid, Razi said the fertilizer would be handed over to the respective village head and tuai rumah.

“There were reports of many issues before, such as unfair distribution. I hope that the aid is distributed wisely.”

Betong Division agriculture officer Petrus Kang also said the fertilizer would be sent directly to every village and longhouse.

At the ceremony, Razi also presented cheques under Betong MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat’s MRP to 22 village development and security committees, with each receiving RM4,000.

Debak sub-district supervising officer Nazari Bujang and Betong Division Temenggong Pi’ee Alwi were also present.
