100% clean water coverage

KUCHING: Clean wholesome water will no longer be a problem for people of Saribas state constituency.

In fact, Utilities Assistant Minister (Water Supply) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said, Saribas will create history by being the first constituency in Sarawak to receive 100 percent clean water.

He said this means that 1,106 houses in four villages will not have to face the pressing need to rely on water reservoirs and wells.

He added that with the completion of Manggut water treatment facility, clean water can be channeled to Kampung Supa, Kampung Medang, Kampung Tuie and Kampung Serabang.

“Once the project to channel water from the Manggut plant is completed, Saribas will become the first rural area to receive 100 percent clean water,” he said when attending a briefing on the clean water supply project at Abg Matasim Multi-purpose Hall of Kampung Tuie in Pusa, yesterday.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Islamic Affairs and DBKU Assistant Minister, stressed that it was the state government’s intention to provide continuous clean water supply.

“The state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg targets 100 percent clean water supply statewide by 2025,” he said, adding that the current percentage is at 81.4 percent.

He revealed that the state government has allocated RM2.8 billion for that purpose. Also present were Saribas assemblyman Mohamad Razi Sitam and Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) director Chang Kuet Shian.
