SARIKEI: The Sarikei Hospital received two haemodialysis machines valued at RM82,300 each under the Special Aid for Kidney Patients (ВKРВР) initiative.

Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah witnessed the handover of the machines on Tuesday (Feb 27).

Fatimah expressed hope that with the addition of the haemodialysis machines, it would allow more patients from Sarikei and surrounding areas to receive vital treatment.

She said the Sarawak Social Welfare Department had procured a total of 24 haemodialysis machines through a tender process at a cost of RM987,600.

Meanwhile, Sarikei Hospital director Dr Mohamad Ng Siah Huat said 95 out of 209 people in the area are still on the waiting list to receive treatment.

The ВKРВР, approved by the state Cabinet since March 2020, was aimed to ease the burden of kidney patients in the Sarawak requiring treatment for kidney disease.

Also present were Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development acting permanent secretary Nur Alina Abdullah @ Colliner Gohe, senior assistant director Armisy Basri, and Sarikei Resident representative Susie Dominic Junit.
