SARIKEI: Sarikei has the potential to become a food production hub and agro-tourism centre as its population is involved in commodity farming, fruits, and vegetables, which are the main economic activities of the area.

Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Dr Ripin Lamat said this is further enhanced by Sarikei keeping pace with development  trends through various high-impact projects that are currently being implemented to boost the economic momentum in that region.

Therefore, he urges the youth in the area to seize the opportunity by venturing into entrepreneurship and exploring the latest innovations in the agricultural sector.

“The youth in Sarikei should see this as an opportunity to venture into relevant entrepreneurial fields and explore the latest innovations in developing the modern agricultural sector,” he said during the Youth Entrepreneurs Setup (YES) 2023 programme held recently.

He added that the involvement of youth in the entrepreneurial sector is expected to help provide more job opportunities.

In addition, Dr Ripin, who is also Lambir assemblyman called on all youths to participate in the YouthPreneur Carnival programme, which is scheduled to be held from Nov 3 to 5 at Padang Merdeka in Kuching.

According to him, various programmes are lined up which include renowned entrepreneurs from Malaysia and Sarawak, in addition to entrepreneurship-related programmes.
