Sarikei woman found dead in Sekama river

KUCHING: The lifeless body of a woman from Sarikei was found in the Sekama River along Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim yesterday (Feb 24).

The discovery was made by passers-by around 4.35pm, who spotted the fully clothed body floating in the river and promptly alerted the authorities.

Firefighters from Padungan station, along with the police and paramedics, were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, emergency responders promptly employed a step ladder and ropes to retrieve the body from the river.

The woman has been identified as 35-year-old Leong Lee Yien.

Her body was then handed over to the police for transportation to the hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.

Following that, the operation concluded at 6.16pm.
