SARIKEI: Positioned to become a prominent agro-tourism destination, Sarikei has organised the 18th Edition of the Sarikei Pineapple and Fruit Festival 2023 from Nov 25 to 26.

The event aligned with the government’s vision of establishing Sarawak as the ‘Food Basket’ of the region, showcasing its rich agricultural offerings.

According to a statement, the festival aimed to bolster communal harmony and unity across diverse racial groups. It also focused on elevating socio-economic status through entrepreneurial ventures, product sales, and promotions.

Sarikei MP Datuk Sri Huang Tiong Sii officiated several key events at the festival, including the Mobile Rahmah Sales Programme (PJR) at the Sarikei Innovation Centre (SIC), a competitive cooking event at the Sarikei Community College, and visited the Agricultural Expo Site and the Sarikei Kitchen.

At the same event, Huang distributed food baskets to 10 deserving asnaf recipients, including single mothers and senior citizens.

Also present were Sarikei District Resident Michael Ronnie Langgong and his Deputy Badjuri Bidin.
