KUALA LUMPUR: The Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry will be introducing new fishing boats using satellite technology to help fishermen improve their catch.

Its Deputy Minister Sim Tze Tzin said the boat would facilitate fishermen detect the location of fish in the sea apart from saving diesel.

‘The new vessel will make catching fish more efficient as they can proceed to the right spot to catch with the assistance of the technology,” he told Dewan Rakyat today.

He was replying to a question by Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus (PH-Hulu Langat) who wanted to know the measures carried out by the government to improve the quality of fishermen catch.

Sim said fishermen from Australia have used the fishing boats bought from Malaysia but the reception from local fishermen is still not satisfactory.

Meanwhile, Sim said marine fisheries output in 2018 was 1.47 tonnes worth RM11,385 million with Kelantan recording RM270.29 million worth of fish and other marine produce. – Bernama
