KUCHING: Children are advised to prioritise education for a successful future and to bring pride to their parents.

Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki urged 70 boys, who underwent circumcision at the Pertubuhan Anak Seni Bandarsah Kuching’s (PASBK) community hall, to focus on their studies first, stating that relationships can come later.

During his speech at the event for B40 and less fortunate children in the Satok constituency on Sunday (Feb 11), he said, “My advice is to study hard, get that graduation square hat, and make your parents proud. Relationships can come later. Instead, you all should focus on your studies because education is very crucial.”

The programme, organised in collaboration with the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok Religious Bureau and Welfare Bureau, along with the Kuching Medical Assistants Association, aimed to assist those unable to afford circumcision expenses and treatment.

“Some participants, even at 15 years old, had yet to undergo the procedure due to the high cost, typically around RM300 in clinics. With the cooperation of various parties, we offer this circumcision programme for free, covering all necessary expenses.”

The participants included students from schools in the Satok area, such as SK Merpati Jepang, SK Rakyat, and SK Combined. A total of 20 experienced medical officers and assistants were present to perform the circumcision procedure.

The event was attended by Kuching North City Hall mayor Hilmy Othman and Abdul Samat Gany, a political secretary to the Sarawak Premier.
