MIRI: A joint enforcement team comprising officers from Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) Miri Regional Office and Marine Police raided a sawmill located at KM23, Jalan SK Long Keseh Lama on Sept 11.
According to a press statement issued yesterday by SFC, the joint operation resulted in the detention of 16 pieces of belian, a forklift, three vehicles, three sets of generators and a bandsaw believed to have been used to process timber products.
Part of the detained timber was tagged with property marks; however, due to the absence of the ‘JH’ hammer mark, the logs were considered illegal.
SFC chief executive officer Haji Zolkipli Mohamad Aton said, “The success of the raid was made possible by the cooperation between the enforcement agencies. Therefore, more joint operations will be conducted to eradicate illegal activities.”
There were no suspects spotted during the search. A report on the raid has been lodged at the Long Lama police station and the case was handed over to Forest Department Sarawak on Sept 13 for further investigation.
