KUCHING: The revised Sarawak Building Ordinance 1994 (SBO) will include provision for online submissions of building permits, in line with the digital economy initiative by the Sarawak government, said Malaysian Institute of Architects Sarawak Chapter (PAMSC).

PAMSC said online submissions would improve the efficiency and transparency of the building permits submission and approval process, whilst reducing the printing of hard copies and documents – making the process more environmentally-friendly.

During PAMSC’s courtesy visit, led by chairperson Ivy Jong, to the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Housing Datuk Antonio Kathi Galis at his office on Monday, the ministry had updated PAMSC on the current progress of the review on SBO.

“PAMSC, as a permanent member on the Joint Technical Consultative Committee (JTCC) chaired by the ministry, is honoured to have the privilege to contribute towards resolving technical issues and working together with relevant stakeholders to standardise the application of by-laws and policies,” said Jong.
