THE Sarawak government, through the Department of Agriculture (DOA), is committed to promoting Musang King durian farming with the introduction of a replanting scheme called ‘Skim Tanam Baru Durian’.

Assistant Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the scheme would cover the whole of Sarawak.

“The scheme provides assistance for durian rehabilitation with RM15,000 for a hectare involving area clearing and provision of inputs such as fertiliser and seedlings.

“Elected representatives can apply on behalf of the farmers interested in joining the scheme,” he said at the DUN sitting on Monday (Nov 9).

He was responding to Ali Biju (Bersatu-Krian), who asked about the state government’s plans to promote Musang King durian farming.

Dr Abdul Rahman mentioned that the government had disbursed Musang King durian seedlings to smallholders throughout the state as one of the efforts.

“The government has also intensified development and training for smallholders as well as intensified the implementation of the Plant Material Confirmation Scheme (SPBT) for durian.”
