School bus driver gets four years for molest

KUCHING: A school bus driver was sentenced to four years imprisonment today for molesting a teenage girl.

Accused Zolhaji Mohamad, 47, pleaded guilty after a charge under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 was read out by an interpreter before judge Maris Agan at the Sessions Court here.

According to the charge, he grabbed the breasts of a 15-year-old girl in Jalan Matang, Depo Link at about 1.18pm, on April 14.

During the re-mention of the case, the accused appealed for a reduced sentence. In addition, he said he had to support his 17-year-old child.

The incident was believed to have happened when the teenager had just returned from school.

She was approached by an unknown man, who pretended to ask questions. The man then grabbed the victim’s breasts and fled the scene.

The case was prosecuted by deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Aiman ​​Mutallib Mohamad Shariff while the accused was not represented.
