KUCHING: A 14-year-old school dropout were among 40 people arrested in 25 raids involving illegal gambling activities carried out from 19 June to 2 July.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief, SAC Dato Dev Kumar Sree Shunmugam said 30 of those arrested were males including the school dropout and a foreign national.

Of the 25 raids, he said 20 were against illegal 4D, cyber gambling (four) and playing ‘Holo’ (one).

The raids were conducted by teams from CID HQ and district CID units. There were two raids conducted by CID Headquarters in Padawan. Other than that CID Miri conducted eight raids, CID Padawan four raids, CID Kuching three raids; two raids by CID Mukah, CID Sri Aman and CID Betong and one raid by CID Limbang.

The 20 raids on illegal 4D sellers resulted in the arrests of 22 individuals and seizure of cash amounting to RM5,046. Mobile phones, portable printers, betting slips, calculators and stationeries were also seized.

Apart from illegal 4D raids, four raids were conducted against cyber gambling in Miri, Kuching and Betong.

The raids resulted in the arrested of 13 individuals and seizure of 37 computers and tablets used for the illegal activities. A raid was
also conducted behind a cafe in Limbang where five individuals were arrested for playing ‘Holo’ in a public place.

Dev Kumar said all those arrested were being investigated for offences under the Common Gaming House Act 1953.
