School PIBG gets RM3,000 grant

KUCHING: Sri Aman DAP chairman Leon Jimat Donald went to SJK Chung Hua, Batu Lintang, Undop, Sri Aman recently to keep himself updated on the progress of the school.

During the visit, Leon was welcomed by chairman of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Mary Jamit, a member of the school Board of Management, Chang Poh Chin and the school headmistress Bong Set Khium.

Bong said she hoped to see more assistance to the school as most of the buildings were old and in dire need of repair.

Leon, on the other hand, thanked the PTA members who took time off to have the dialogue with him.

“It is important that school management, parents and people’s representatives interact regularly so that policies and welfare of the students can be addressed properly and swiftly,” he said.

He also promised to seek for more financial aids to assist the school and commended the Dayak parents for sending their children to the school after he was informed that Dayak students comprised about 88 per cent of the student population.

“This school has produced many bright students who are also able to speak Mandarin which is an advantage in this competitive world. I thank and support the parents and teachers of SJK Chung Hua Undop in helping and motivating the students to excel because education is the key to escape the vicious cycle of poverty,” Leon said.

During the visit, he also announced a grant of RM3,000 for the PTA.
