School receives gifts from Petronas

TATAU: Malaysia Petroleum’s (Petronas) subsidiary, Malaysia LNG (MLNG) through MLNG Bestari Outreach Programmes has donated 400 mattresses, 300 units of ‘double decker’ beds and 650 units of plastic chairs to Tatau Government Secondary School (SMK), yesterday.

The symbolic contribution was presented by the Managing Director and chief executive officer of the MLNG Group, Mohamed Syazwan Abdullah @ Laga Jenggi to the principal of the school, Dr. Layang Ugek.

In his brief speech, Dr Layang said the donation was so meaningful for the comfort of the students of the school involved.

In addition to MLNG, he said, his side also received donations from the Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk John Sikie Tayai in the form of chair and table equipment, upgrading the stage and donations to SMK Tatau students who participated in the Dance Art competition in Kuala Lumpur, recently.

He hoped that more non-governmental organisations (NGOs) would come forward to offer help and donations in the future.

In addition to presenting donations, MLNG also provided information on scholarships and job opportunities offered by the company involved to students.

While in the motivational talk, Mohamed Syazwan shared the story of his experience as a rural student from SK Ulu Roban until he successfully continued his education to Colorado US.

He also shared his experience during more than 30 years and first held a position as an engineer at Petronas Miri where during that period, he has served not only in the country but also in several countries such as Australia, Japan and is now holding his current position as CEO of MLNG Group of Companies.

He hopes that the partnership will inspire and motivate the students to study hard and get a good job one day.

“Nothing is impossible; this depends on the efforts of all children,” he added.
