School receives new chairs and tables

SIBU:  SJK (C) Kiew Nang, which was razed by a fire on May 21, has received 130 new sets of chairs and tables costing a total of RM20,000.

The afternoon fire destroyed its canteen, four classrooms and toilets.

A community leader of Kiew Nang Poh, Kapitan Connie Loh responded to the call by chairman of the school board of management, Tiong Hock Kieng to donate the items.

“With God’s blessing, I managed to raise enough money for the items. Of the sum, I contributed RM5,000 while my family members gave another RM3,000. The balance was donated by 12 Lions Clubs,” explained Loh at the handing over ceremony yesterday.

The Lions Clubs are the Lions Club of Sibu City, Berjaya, Sungai Merah, Sibu Host, Lanang, Mandarin, Sibu Jaya,Bawang Assan, Queensway, Pahlawan and Nangka.

Loh, who is also the chairman of KRT Kiew Nang and Wanita chief of PSB Dudong, added that she was happy to assist the school.

She also thanked her family members and the Lions Clubs for their generosity.

Pointing out that the school was built 60 years ago, she said, “I hope the students will have a more conducive environment for their studies.”

The school currently has 393 pupils from pre-school until Primary Six and 13 classrooms.
