KUCHING: All schools and educational institutions in Kuching District will be closed from Oct 30 until Nov 13 because of the rising number of positive cases.

Thus, was announced by the Education Ministry (MoE) on Wednesday.

“This will involve a total of 209 educational institutions throughout Kuching District. They include primary and secondary schools under the MoE, Teacher’s Education Institutes, matriculation colleges, and other private schools registered with the MoE,” the ministry said in a statement.

It added that the decision was in line with Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s special address on Oct 6 regarding the government’s decision to close schools in areas declared as red zones by the Health Ministry (MoH).

It said the list of affected educational institutions would be updated from time to time and uploaded on the ministry’s portal at www.moe.gov.my as well as its official social media platforms.

“Schools and educational institutions with dormitories are also closed. Parents or guardians need to pick up students residing in such dormitories, “it pointed out.

However, the ministry said students waiting to be picked up by their parents or guardians or those who wished to remain at the dormitories throughout the closure period would be under the care of the dormitory wardens.

It said that these students’ dietary requirements throughout this period would be provided by the schools or educational institutions.

“For students who need to sit for international examinations scheduled during the closure period, they must obtain a letter from their respective schools to attend these examinations,” added the ministry.

It revealed that throughout the closure period, school and educational institution administrators were instructed to ensure that teachers and students carried out teaching and learning from home.

It added that the manual for teaching and learning from home could be downloaded from the MoE’s official portal (www.moe.gov.my).

The ministry assured that it would always monitor the current situation throughout the country and cooperate with the National Security Council (MKN) and the MoH.
