PUSA: Schools that are still operating as usual are reminded to adopt stricter standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

SJKC Chung Hua board of management chairman Cr Datuk Lim Kian Choon agreed with the immediate closure of schools in red zones, as announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on Monday (April 19).

“It’s the right move, however, for schools in other zones that are operating as usual, they should adopt stricter SOPs.

“We are aware that if all schools are closed, it would have an impact on the children’s learning, especially in rural areas that do not have good Internet coverage,” he said on Monday.

Lim also expressed concern over the recent increase in Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.

“I believe the government’s decision was made after examining all relevant factors, for example, we are aware that physical education is very important, but health issues also need to be taken into account.

“I just hope, whether home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) or face-to-face learning, the government should address the problem of Internet coverage as soon as possible.”

Earlier, Lim, representing the Beting Maro assemblyman, presented aid to the poor, single mothers and people with disabilities (OKU).

Food aid was distributed to 93 recipients from Kampung Tambak, 71 from Kampung Hulu Pusa, 70 from Kampung Tengah Pusa and 80 from Kampung Hilir Pusa.

He also represented Batang Lupar MP Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim in handing out dates to frontliners in Pusa District and Maludam Sub-District.
