MIRI: Travellers can book direct flight tickets from Miri to Singapore with Scoot Tigerair Pte Ltd (Scoot) starting Feb 23.

Sarawak’s Ministry of Transport received a letter of confirmation from Scoot on their intention to mount twice weekly direct passenger air service between Singapore and Miri.

It will operate every Wednesday and Saturday, slated to arrive at 2.20pm in Miri and depart for Singapore at 3pm the same day.

“We believe that with the opening of this new route between Singapore and Miri, the distance, time and comfort of doing business will be less of a hassle, especially if we need to bring in cargo or business travellers from overseas via Singapore to Miri.

“Since Miri is also the centre for the oil and gas industry in Sarawak with the presence of big corporations including Petronas and Shell.

“The travelling time and expenses will be much reduced compared to transiting in Kuala Lumpur,” said Minister for Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin in a statement on Saturday (Feb 5).

Lee visited the check-in counter allocated to Scoot Airlines at Miri Airport. Together with him on the left-hand side were Miri Airport manager Jauhari Abdullah (second right), Sarawak Tourism Board member Albert Sim (right) and Ground Handlers appointed by Scoot (in red).

Lee also reminded passengers and travellers to comply strictly with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by National Security Council (MKN), Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) and Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Sarawak.

At the same, he visited Miri Airport to see the Scoot counters that are already set up and ready to manage passengers for the Singapore-Miri route.

Scoot’s Singapore-Miri service was supposed to have commenced on Jan 19 but it was postponed to Feb 23 due to unforeseen reasons.

“Currently, Scoot is operating their flight from Singapore to Kuching three times weekly.

“It is very timely for the airline to operate from Singapore to Miri and vice-versa as Miri is designated as the northern gateway to Sarawak.

“Hence, we would like to thank Scoot for the confidence they have in Miri as their new destination in the region,” he stated.

The flight is now open for booking and travellers can go direct to their website at https://www.flyscoot.com.
