KUCHING: A total of 184 recipients were yesterday awarded the Bintang Pingat Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia at the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP).

Heading the list to receive the National Scout Award, the bronze Bintang Semangat Rimba was Peter Chai Mui Seng, the Chairman of the Council’ Executive Committee and John Lim Boon Beng was awarded the Bintang Semangat Rimba, the highest national scouting award.

For the record, Captain Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan, was the sole recipient of Bintang Pengakap Kenyalang, the highest scout award under the Scout Association of Malaysia Sarawak Branch.

There were 42 recipients who received the National Scout Awards and Honours while 172 received the Sarawak Scout Awards, but only 184 were present to receive the award.

Therefore Scouts Association of Malaysia Sarawak Branch was glad and honoured to present the Scout awards and honours to deserving scout commissioners and leaders for their contribution in the development of scouting in Sarawak.

Deputy president of the National Scout Council Datuk Ahmad Shazilly Ismail Bakti presented the National Scout Awards  while Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, the President of Sarawak Scout Council presented the Sarawak Scout Awards while State Chief Scout Commissioner Captain Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan presented the Chief Scout Commissioner’s Certificates of Commendation.

During the event, Mawan officiated at the Sports Carnival and Scout Games.

The games, themed ‘Minda Cergas, Badan Sihat’ will be held again on July 22 and this time around it was conducted throughout Sarawak, and only applicable for all registered scout members from aged 10 onwards.

Also present at the event were Datuk Mohammad Safri Datuk Abdillah, Datuk Ahmad Shazilly Ismail Baktj, Col Jumaat Ibrahim and other dignitaries.
