MIRI: Scuba diving and snorkelling in Miri resumed on Sunday (Aug 15) after a three-month break following the imposition of the movement control order (MCO) to curb the spread of Covid-19.

However, diving operators have been reminded to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) under the National Recovery Plan Phase 3.

“These activities are allowed as long as they comply with the SOPs and those involved must have completed their vaccination doses,” said Transport Minister, Datuk Lee Kim Shin when met on Sunday after a brief visit to Marina Jetty.

He added the diving operators must ensure their passengers observe physical distancing of one metre while on their boats.

Lee said Miri Division was still restricting inter-district travelling to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“Those who wish to travel need to request for police permits,” he explained.

Lee, who is also minister in charge of the Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (MDDMC), urged the people here to continue adhering to the SOPs to curb the spread of Covid-19.

On the latest update of the newly set up task force to help identify individuals who had not been vaccinated yet, he said the process was ongoing.

“We have collaborated with Curtin Sarawak to provide buses to help bring those from the nearby kampung areas in Senadin to the vaccination centre at the university,” he said.
