KUCHING: Sarawak Development Institute (SDI) will be organising a virtual Brown Bag talk on reforestation and circular economy in Sarawak this Thursday (May 20).

SDI in a statement today stated that the talk entitled Reforestation and Circular Economy in Sarawak will be conducted by Dr Henry Chan, the conservation director of WWF-Malaysia and a member of SDI via Zoom from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm.

“SDI believes the topic on circular economy requires the right information and knowledge sharing to help all stakeholders address the climate change issue and provide input on ways to develop a green economy for the state.

“In the era of global warming, we need to take all efforts to reduce carbon emission. Moreover, we must maintain and increase our natural forest as carbon sink to absorb the carbon emissions at the same time,” it said.

SDI added that the parallel effort on reforestation and circular economy serves as a crucial tool to address climate change.

“Dr Henry will share some of the strategies to incorporate reforestation into circular economy and the conceptual thoughts on how different players can form a consortium to transform the space between growing trees into renewable energy and produce at a scale that reduces our dependence of fossil fuel to power our economy,” it said.

Members of the public are invited to join the talk and they can register themselves through the link (https://tinyurl.com/2uwxt6ee), by scanning the QR code on SDI’s Facebook Page, calling SDI’s office at 082-415484/082-416484, email at eveletterobin@sdi.com.my for further information.
