KUCHING: Decisions made by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in the past were based on professional recommendations.

This practice by the committee (taking into account of recommendations) will continue, said Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

The Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister said SDMC will plan and decide what are the appropriate measures and ruling based on any recommendations in support of professional views from the State Health Department (JKNS)personnel who are members of the committee.

She was responding to Julau MP Larry Sng recent personal suggestion to the state government to consider lifting inter-state and inter-district travel restrictions for vaccinated individuals as over 69,300 Sarawakians are fully vaccinated.

“Any suggestions and recommendations would be in the hand of SDMC which will be made based on the recommendations from experts who are also committee members.

“The decisions will be made by SDMC with full support of JKNS personnel who are also members of the committee.”

Fatimah also remarked that the government’s primary priority is the people of Sarawak. She hoped through full adherence to the measures and related standard operating procedures (SOPs), the curve of Covid-19 infections would be flattened, adding this is for the safety and health of Sarawakians.

“The safety and health of the Sarawak people is our top priority, and any decisions made by the state government and SDMC would be in favour of our collective health and wellbeing.

“As stated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, the safety and wellbeing of the people in Sarawak is our top priority,” she reiterated.
