KUCHING: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) will conduct a thorough investigation over allegations of negligence in complying with the standard operating procedure (SOP) when admitting new detainees at the Semuja Immigration Detention Centre in Serian.

SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the allegation was very disturbing and a grave concern.

“We will leave no stone unturned in our investigation as such negligence, if proven true, certainly jeopardises everyone’s health.

“There is actually SOP set when admitting new detainees. It should be strictly complied with for everyone’s sake.”

The Semuja Immigration Detention Centre accounted for 138 of the 407 positive cases recorded in Sarawak yesterday.

Uggah again reminded commandants of all detention centres and prisons to ensure existing SOP is strictly complied with at all times.

“Do not take things for granted. Make sure there is strict compliance and please treat this responsibility seriously. Any negligence can result in devastating consequences.”
