KUCHING: All Dayak associations are encouraged to actively engage in any programmes associated with the Dayak celebrations in Sarawak.
Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom said unity among diverse ethnic groups in Sarawak must be fostered to strengthen ties.
“With the Hari Gawai celebration approaching, I urge everyone to participate in the upcoming 2024 Niti Daun Programme.
“Let us work together to make the programme a success by taking part in all activities organised by the Dayak community,” he said when officiating the SDNU Food Fair at Jalan Satok here last night (May 3).
The Pakan assemblyman added events such as the Dayak food fair not only showcase the association’s hospitality but also demonstrate the joy of welcoming guests.
He said so far, only food business programmes and some others could be organised due to time constraints in the construction of the Rumah Dayak.
“Nevertheless, Dayak community leaders have urged many to attend the officiation of the Rumah Dayak,” he explained.
The SDNU Food Fair will operate from 10am to 10pm today (May 4) and continue from 10am to 4pm tomorrow (May 5).
Earlier, Mawan, along with Deputy Minister of International Trade and Investment (MINTRED) Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, SDNU Vice President Christopher Gira Sambang, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon and Krian assemblyman Friday Belik collectively pledged RM130,000 to support SDNU initiatives.
