SIMUNJAN: The search for 39-year-old Francis Awi who was reported to have fallen into the sea in the waters of Pulau Burong has been temporarily postponed, following the discovery of a decomposing body in the Batang Lupar ferry area (Kampung Beliong).

A spokesman for the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said the body of Indonesian Peiter Patria Nusantara, 21, was found by the public at 2.03pm, who then alerted the police.

Peiter was reported missing on April 18 after he was believed to have fallen into Sungai Lingga, Batang Lupar.

It is said that the incident happened at 6.30pm and according to Gloria 2 Ship Manager Lee Shih Yung, 36, they were informed of the incident by the crew chief Izzuddin.

“Rescuers went to the reported location and brought the body to the Sebuyau public jetty before being handed over to the police for further action.

“The search and rescue (SAR) operation has been postponed pending confirmation on the body after discussions were held between the agencies involved,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Francis was reported to have fallen into the sea in the waters of Pulau Burong on April 18 and a search was immediately conducted by several fishing boats, but failed to find the victim.
