KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) recently secured two prestigious awards at the 16th Annual Global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Summit & Awards 2024 in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The company said that it received the Silver Award for the Belaga Penan Education Fund initiative in the Best Community Programme category, and the Gold Award for its Handicraft Development Project in the Empowerment of Women category.

“The Belaga Penan Education Fund was established in 2015 as a joint venture between Sarawak Energy and the Bakun Charitable Trust. Its aim is to support Penan students and youth from the Belaga communities near the Murum Hydroelectric Plant,” said SEB on its official Facebook page.

The Handicraft Development Project, another initiative by Sarawak Energy, aims to preserve the cultural heritage of indigenous communities and promote sustainable livelihoods through entrepreneurship.

Representatives from SEB at the award ceremony were general manager for Social Impact Management and Corporate Social Responsibility Jiwari Abdullah; senior manager for Community Relations and Consultation Mahmood Long; and Sarawak Energy’s Bakun Hydroelectric Project (HEP) station manager Encharang Ngtingih.
